The Sulphur Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Plainview Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sulphur is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Sulphur suffered their biggest defeat since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Madill 68-30. While losing is never fun, Sulphur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Madill is ranked 131st).
Meanwhile, even though Lone Grove scored an imposing 59 points on Tuesday, Plainview still came out on top. Plainview snuck past Lone Grove with a 65-59 victory.
Plainview's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacelyn Hammon, who scored 15 points along with six assists. Marya Southerland was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Sulphur has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Plainview, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.
Sulphur might still be hurting after the 41-21 loss they got from Plainview when the teams last played on January 5th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hammon, who scored ten points along with eight steals. Now that Sulphur knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
