The Purcell Marian Cavaliers had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They skirted past Zane Trace 30-28. Winning may never get old, but Purcell Marian sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Jayel Harris was his usual excellent self, rushing for 246 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Sonny Ward also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Zane Trace's lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Blake Phillips, who rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for five yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaden Dunn, who picked up 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Purcell Marian pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points per game. As for Zane Trace, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4.
Purcell Marian will head out on the road to face off against Valley View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Valley View has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 571 points over their last 12 contests. Zane Trace does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
