Eaton Rapids has gone 8-2 against Lansing Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Greyhounds will challenge the Cougars at 8:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Eaton Rapids 3.7, Lansing Catholic 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Eaton Rapids came out on top against Trenton on Sunday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Greyhounds walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Trojans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Greyhounds.
Ari Brooks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Abi Pratt was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Madaelen Putnam was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lansing Catholic had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Zoey Gruber made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Garcia was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Austynn Arellano, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Lansing Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Lansing Catholic pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Eaton Rapids, their victory bumped their record up to 25-9.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eaton Rapids hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Lansing Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .405. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
