Nucla extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-5. They came up short against the Ignacio Bobcats, falling 11-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Nucla saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Bray, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Bray has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Collin Johnson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Ignacio, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.
On Ignacio's side, Stoney White Thunder-Lucero was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. White Thunder-Lucero also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ignacio is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. White Thunder-Lucero was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, William Mendoza and Maximilllion Mendoza did most of the damage at the plate: William went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Maximilllion got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. William is becoming a predictor of Ignacio's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Gabe Archuletta was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Nucla will square off against Sargent at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Ignacio, they will head out to face off against Dolores at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
