The Shelter Island Islanders will be home for the holidays to greet the Smithtown Christian Knights at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Shelter Island's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in November after their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by Miller Place 80-47. Shelter Island was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-18.
Shelter Island's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Evan Weslek, who scored 23 points, and Harrison Weslek who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Smithtown Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Bridgehampton with a sharp 76-56 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smithtown Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lorenzo Crilly, who scored 26 points. The game was Crilly's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah McCarter, who scored 24 points.
Shelter Island bumped their record down to 0-1 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Smithtown Christian, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Shelter Island came up short against Smithtown Christian when the teams last played back in February, falling 38-26. Can Shelter Island avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
