Basketball Recap: Memorial Piles Up the Points Against Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Memorial). They took their contest on Monday with ease, bagging an 81-34 victory over the Central Braves. The Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 23 points or more this season.

Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaiah Garrett led the charge by going 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds. That's the most rebounds Garrett has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalil Cotton, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Memorial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Memorial's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next game is against McAlester at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against McLain Science & Tech at 7:30 p.m.
