Basketball Recap: Eureka Takes a Loss

Eureka lost against McKinleyville back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Eureka Loggers took a 67-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McKinleyville Panthers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (55), the Loggers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Eureka lost, don't look at Trenton Gerber. Despite the final result, he posted 21 points. Those 21 points gave Gerber a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elijah Estrada, who had 13 points.

McKinleyville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bode Douglass led the charge by going 6 for 13 on his way to 18 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Armstrong, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Eureka dropped their record down to 11-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for McKinleyville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Eureka wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 62-51 defeat against St. Bernard's on the 11th. As for McKinleyville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-54 victory against Del Norte on the 10th.
