For the first time this season, Cuero will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to square off against the Rockport-Fulton Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cuero will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
On Friday, Cuero beat Harlingen 35-27. The Gobblers pushed the score to 35-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals cut but never quite recovered from.
A big part of Cuero's win came down to the chemistry between Jaxxon Marie and his top target Walker Dietze. Marie threw for 225 yards and two TDs while Dietze picked up 161 receiving yards and one score.
Cuero was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 226 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 168 rushing yards in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rockport-Fulton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against Hallettsville on Friday as they made off with a 34-13 victory. Considering the Pirates have won three matchups by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Rockport-Fulton's win came from a few key players Cuero will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaxon Keown, who rushed for 47 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 23 yards and one TD. He has become a key player for Rockport-Fulton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Reid Snyder, who threw for 134 yards and one touchdown on only 12 passes.
Cuero's record now sits at 6-0. As for Rockport-Fulton, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Cuero has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 235.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Rockport-Fulton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 276.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Cuero's way against Rockport-Fulton in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Cuero made off with a 34-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gobblers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
