Basketball Recap: Winter Haven Piles Up the Points Against Bluefield

Winter Haven posted their biggest win since February 15th on Saturday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 99-64 victory over the Bluefield Beavers. The Blue Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Winter Haven to victory were Troy Boswell Jr and Gavin Hall. Boswell Jr went 17 for 24 on his way to 40 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists, while Hall went 10 of 19 on his way to 26 points along with eight assists and eight boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Boswell Jr has scored at least a third of Winter Haven's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Phillips, who went 5 of 9 en route to 14 points and six assists.

Winter Haven smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Winter Haven moved to 2-7 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for Bluefield, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Winter Haven will host Notre Dame at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Bluefield, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Graham at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
