Two dominant players in Julien Barnett and Jacob Douglas are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The King Lions and the Sumner Stingrays will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
King posted their biggest victory since December 15, 2023 on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Chamberlain 73-34 at home. The win was just what King needed coming off of a 75-50 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead King to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andreas Jackson, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season. Barnett was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with two blocks.
In what's become a running theme this season, Sumner gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 83-23 victory over Brandon. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-16.
Kyree Williams was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 13 points along with seven assists and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Karsten Walker, who scored ten points.
King now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Sumner, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: King have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Sumner, though, as they've been averaging only 4.9 threes per game. Given King's sizeable advantage in that area, Sumner will need to find a way to close that gap.
King came up short against Sumner when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 59-46. Will King have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
