Basketball Recap: Riverside Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Riverside won the last time they faced Centennial and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Riverside Rangers walked away with a 45-33 victory over the Centennial Hawks. The win was all the more spectacular given the Rangers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 289th in Texas, while the Hawks are ranked 54th in New Mexico).

Riverside's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jocelyn Castro, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 18 points and five rebounds. Castro's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yazmin Rios, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Centennial's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kennedy Maestas, who had ten points. Ashley Miller was another key player, putting up six points.

Riverside's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points per game. As for Centennial, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Riverside will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Fabens at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th. As for Centennial, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 56-13 loss against Hobbs on the 3rd.
