Baseball Recap: C.B. Aycock Takes a Loss

C.B. Aycock extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Lenoir Blue Devils. That's two games in a row now that the Golden Falcons have lost by just one run.

Zay Cora led a balanced group of hitters, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. C.B. Aycock is 4-2 when Cora posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayce Poole, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

As for South Lenoir, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games.

On South Lenoir's side, Christian Wooten looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

On the hitting side, Noah Rouse and Jake Howard did most of the damage at the plate: Rouse went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Howard went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Howard has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Clements, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Coming up, C.B. Aycock is taking a road trip to take on East Duplin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Panthers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for South Lenoir, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Rosewood at 4:00 p.m. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
