The Edwards County Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Robinson Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Edwards County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Edwards County beat Flora 7-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Allison Groff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Kyndal Richards was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Holly Hensley, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Robinson waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 4-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Eva Herman's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mallory Mosbey, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lyla Stewart also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Edwards County's record is now 18-5. As for Robinson, their record now sits at 15-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Edwards County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Robinson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Edwards County came out on top in a nail-biter against Robinson in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Maroons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
