With a playoff win on the line, South Caldwell rose to the challenge on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Weddington Warriors. The victory was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on 13 straight.
Zalee Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Coffey, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was McCartney Harrington, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.
South Caldwell's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 30-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Weddington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 23-5.
