The Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies will square off against the New Albany Eagles at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Johnstown-Monroe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Lincoln hit Johnstown-Monroe with a five-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Johnnies fell 5-2 to the Lions. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Johnnies couldn't push the score so high this time.
Johnstown-Monroe saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Hochanadel, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for New Albany, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Dublin Jerome on Thursday.
Maurina LaVoie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, New Albany let Zoe Oakleaf and Izzy White run wild. Oakleaf went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while White went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. White is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Grace Benner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
New Albany pushed their record up to 7-16 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Johnstown-Monroe, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9.
New Albany's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Johnstown-Monroe has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for New Albany, though, as they've been averaging 11.7 hits. Given Johnstown-Monroe's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
