If the Central Eagles were riding high off their 58-22 takedown of the North Central Knights last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Central had to suffer through a rough 67-36 loss at the hands of Chesterfield. Central has struggled against Chesterfield recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kabreyia Covington, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and two blocks. Covington is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taisha Quick, who scored 13 points along with four steals and two blocks.
Kierra Diggs continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chesterfield, dropping a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Diggs has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Temia Chapman, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Chesterfield, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Central will face off against Cheraw at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chesterfield, they will be playing at home against York Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. York Prep will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
