The Penfield Patriots will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Penfield only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 23-point they dealt Gates Chili on Wednesday. Penfield blew past Gates Chili 76-53. Given Penfield's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Gates Chili is ranked 550th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Rush-Henrietta waltzed into their match on Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 84-52 victory over Churchville-Chili. That's two games straight that Rush-Henrietta has won by exactly 32 points.
Rush-Henrietta's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Avery Council, who scored 19 points along with eight assists and five rebounds, and Jalen Taggart, who scored 31 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Taggart has scored at least a third of Rush-Henrietta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Collins-Howard, who scored seven points.
Penfield's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Rush-Henrietta, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Penfield was able to grind out a solid win over Rush-Henrietta in their previous matchup back in January, winning 74-62. The rematch might be a little tougher for Penfield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
