If the Chester Cyclones were riding high off their 52-15 takedown of the Ware Shoals Hornets back in December of 2023, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Chester opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-38 loss to Woodruff. Chester has struggled against Woodruff recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Woodruff's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sadie Burnette, who scored 18 points along with eight steals and four blocks. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Burnette has scored at least 25% of Woodruff's points. Jordan Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five steals.
Chester's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.6 points per game. As for Woodruff, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10.
Chester will take on Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union County has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 4. As for Woodruff, they will head out on the road to face off against Emerald at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
