After a string of 11 wins, the Portal Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They received a tough blow as they fell 72-58 to Vidalia. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Portal came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Vidalia is ranked 119th).
Portal's loss came despite strong showings from Marion Tremble and Joseph Thomas. Tremble scored 20 points, while Thomas scored 16 points along with five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. David Thomas was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Portal's loss ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-1. As for Vidalia, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Portal will be playing at home against Savannah Classical Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Savannah Classical Academy is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Vidalia, they will head out on the road to face off against Tattnall County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
