Softball Recap: South Granville Wins Going Away Against Durham School of the Arts

South Granville's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Friday. They put the hurt on the Durham School of the Arts Bulldogs with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Chaleigh Currin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addisen Goodwin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Abigail Shaeffer, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

South Granville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Durham School of the Arts only posted an OBP of .000.

South Granville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12 hits in those games compared to only 5.4 in the others. As for Durham School of the Arts, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Granville will venture away from home to square off against Oxford Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (South Granville 3.6, Oxford Prep 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Durham School of the Arts, they will head out to face off against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
