Football Recap: Winthrop College Prep Academy Piles Up the Points Against Riverview Academy of Math and Science

After only 13 points in their last matchup, Winthrop College Prep Academy made sure to put some points up on the board against Riverview Academy of Math and Science on Monday. The Spartans claimed a resounding 34-0 win over the Barracudas. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five games by 22 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winthrop College Prep Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maya Degreenia, who rushed for 58 yards and one TD, and also threw for 75 yards and three touchdowns. Those three passing touchdowns gave Degreenia a new career-high. Gabriella Rodriguez was in the mix as well, providing Winthrop College Prep Academy with two scores.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Winthrop College Prep Academy, bringing their record up to 9-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.0 points on average over those games. As for Riverview Academy of Math and Science, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winthrop College Prep Academy will challenge Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Riverview Academy of Math and Science, they will take on Bell Creek Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' defense has only allowed 9.4 points per game this season, so the Barracudas' offense will have their work cut out for them.
