Morgan Township is on a six-game streak of home losses, and Tri-Township a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Morgan Township Cherokees will host the Tri-Township Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Morgan Township will bounce into Monday's match after beating Lowell, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Cherokees were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Red Devils on Saturday. Considering the Cherokees' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jett Gheaja
05/03/25 @ Lowell | 6 |
04/05/25 @ Hammond Bishop Noll | 5 |
05/04/24 @ Benton Central | 4 |
05/02/24 @ North Judson-San Pierre | 3 |
04/24/25 @ Kankakee Valley | 2 |
Jett Gheaja tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Matt Symer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Morgan Township is undefeated when Symer posts two or more runs, but 1-12-1 otherwise. Clint Lemmons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Morgan Township was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lowell only posted a batting average of .250.
Tri-Township couldn't beat Kankakee Valley on Saturday even though they stacked eight runs on them in the fifth inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Kougars by a score of 16-15. Even though they lost, the Tigers' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.8 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Lucas Kaiser was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Vernich, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Morgan Township's win bumped their record up to 4-12-1. As for Tri-Township, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morgan Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tri-Township struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Morgan Township skirted past Tri-Township 8-6 in their previous meeting back in June of 2024. Do the Cherokees have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
