Blaine Hipa all night and finished the game with 10 sacks. The biggest play came early in the fourth quarter when
Dawson Hubbard scooped up a fumble setting up a seven-yard touchdown pass from
Nicco Marchiol to
Tre Spivey to put the Huskies up 21-14 with just over eight minutes remaining.
The win clinched the top-seed in the Open Division playoffs and gave Hamilton its second win over a Top 10 opponent as they beat Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) 25-24 when they were ranked No. 7 in September.
The Gaels, now ranked 17th in the MaxPreps Top 25, reeled off their eighth straight win since that loss beating Liberty (Henderson) 35-14 to advance to the 5A state championship. Bishop Gorman will be going for its 11th state title since 2009 on Nov. 18 at Allegiant Stadium.
No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) scored the final 42 points after trailing 14-7 in the first quarter against Norco to pull out a 49-14 win. Sophomore quarterback
Elijah Brown threw for six touchdowns giving him 27 on the year. The Monarchs will face No. 13 Corona Centennial (Corona) on the road in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinals on Nov. 19.
The Huskies blew out Mission Viejo 62-16 and scored on five of their six first-half possessions. Junior quarterback
Izzy Carter finished the night with over 200 yards of total offense and four scores.
On the other side of the bracket No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) will host No. 7 Servite (Anaheim) in the other semifinal.
The Braves beat Los Alamitos 63-38 as they rushed for nearly 600 yards.
Rayshon Luke led the way with 10 carries for 249 yards and three touchdowns. The Friars knocked off Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) 34-3 behind a 21-point fourth quarter.
Tetairoa McMillan showed his versatility and had three interceptions with one being a 90-yard pick-six.
No. 18 Hoover (Ala.) escaped with a 24-23 overtime win against Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) to advance to the 7A semifinals. The Bucs scored on their opening possession of overtime then stopped the Huskies on a game-winning two-point attempt. Up next for Hoover is No. 24 Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) who rolled to a 45-7 win against Oak Mountain (Birmingham). The Bucs snapped the back-to-back 7A state champs 27-game win streak with a 24-21 victory on Oct. 22.
No. 8 Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) pulled away from Lawrence North (Indianapolis) in the fourth quarter for a 29-19 victory. It was the Trojans 26th consecutive victory and the defending 6A state champs face Ben Davis (Indianapolis) in the state semifinals on Nov. 19.
