The Marcellus Mustangs entered their tilt with the Bishop Kearney Kings with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Marcellus came out on top against Bishop Kearney by a score of 71-62 on Monday. Given Marcellus' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Bishop Kearney is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marcellus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tucker Burnett, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Burnett, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Marcellus pushed their record up to 13-1 with that win, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.38 points. As for Bishop Kearney, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Marcellus will be playing at home against Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bishop Kearney, they will head out on the road to face off against University Prep Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. University Prep Charter knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Bishop Kearney likes a good challenge.
