MaxPreps 2012 Sophomore All-American Football Team

After a ninth-grade season in which he accounted for more than 4,500 yards, it was difficult for Jordan quarterback Austin Kafentzis to improve statistically as a sophomore, with defenses well aware of what the 6-foot-1, 195-pound signal-caller was capable of.

However, Kafentzis not only topped his individual numbers from a year ago, but he led Jordan to a Class 5A state title, securing MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year honors.

Kafentzis completed 200 of 313 passes for 3,018 yards and 32 touchdowns. He ran for an additional 1,884 yards and 26 scores on 237 carries.

In the Class 5A final against Syracuse, Kafentzis played his best on the biggest stage, throwing three touchdowns and rushing for a trio of scores.

Through two seasons, Kafentzis has accounted for an astounding 9,467 yards from scrimmage. He edged Kentucky running back Damien Harris, California quarterback Jake Browning and Arkansas quarterback Ty Storey for the award.

First Team Offense

Austin Kafentzis, QB, 6-1, 195, Jordan (Sandy, Utah)
Utah's Mr. Football followed up his dazzling freshman season with an equally impressive sophomore campaign. He threw for 2,860 yards and 31 touchdowns and rushed for an additional 1,689 and 23 scores en route to a Class 5A title.

Jake Browning, QB, 6-1, 185, Folsom (Calif.)
Playing in Folsom's pass-friendly offense, Browning connected on 391 of 605 passes for 63 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Tim Irvin, WR, 5-10, 170, Westminster Christian (Miami)
Michael Irvin's nephew grabbed a whopping 121 catches for 1,032 yards and nine scores.

Christian Kirk, WR, 5-10, 174, Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.)
Krik hauled in 43 passes for 1,003 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed for three scores and intercepted four passes.

Malik Dear, WR, 5-10, 175, Murrah (Jackson, Miss.)
The Class 6A Offensive Player of the Year, Dear amassed 2,262 all purpose yards and 32 scores.

Jordan Davis, TE, 6-5, 250, Clear Lake (Houston)
Physically impressive for a 10th-grader, Davis caught 20 passes for 338 yards and two touchdowns.

Luke Hiers, OL, 6-3, 260, Lake Wales (Fla.)
Hiers helped Lake Wales to the regional finals. Colleges such as LSU and Alabama noticed him after his freshman season.

Zach Rogers, OL, 6-4, 290, Hebron (Carrollton, Texas)
Rogers has been an impact player since his freshman season at Hebron.

Tarrick Thomas, OL, 6-4, 270, Lincoln (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Also a fine shotputter, Thomas helped Lincoln to the Class 7A title game.

Tristen Hoge, OL, 6-6, 265, Highland (Pocatello, Idaho)
The nephew of Merrill Hoge, Tristen is a two-year starter who will have his pick of colleges.

Reno Rosene, OL, 6-4, 300, Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.)
Rosene earned an offer from Notre Dame as a sophomore.

Damien Harris, RB, 5-10, 195, Madison Southern (Berea, Ky.)
Perhaps the top running back in this class, Harris carried 160 times for 1,911 yards and 37 touchdowns, earning second team All-State honors from the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Jacques Patrick, RB, 6-0, 180, Timber Creek (Orlando, Fla.)
Patrick has more than a dozen offers already, and it's easy to see why. He rushed for 2,031 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Jordan Scarlett, RB, 6-0, 200, University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
For one of the nation's top teams, Scarlett rushed 175 times for 1,357 yards and 22 touchdowns.

De'Andre Johnson, ATH, 6-0, 170, First Coast (Jacksonville, Fla.)
The dynamic Johnson completed 119 of 204 passes for 1,973 yards and 20 touchdowns, leading First Coast to a 10-1 record.
