The Wood River Eagles struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (the Centura Centurions had 900% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wood River took a 40-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Centura. Wood River lost against Centura in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-24 score last time.
Wood River's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sidney Frear, who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Macie Peters, who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds.
Among those leading the charge was Kyra Wooden, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Davis, who scored 7 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Centura, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Wood River will be playing in front of their home fans against Adams Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Centura, they will head out on the road to face off against Central City on Friday.
