South is 10-0 against Haysville Campus since December of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The South Cougars will take on the Haysville Campus Colts at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
South lost 62-40 to Maize South last Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Mavericks are ranked 22nd).
Despite their loss, South saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tamia Cheeks, who posted nine points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Brylee Moss was another key player, putting up nine points.
Meanwhile, Haysville Campus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a blow against Maize South, falling 70-32.
Like South, Haysville Campus lost despite seeing results from several players. Addison Wood led the charge by posting eight points. Another player making a difference was Madilyn Harris, who scored five points along with seven boards and three steals.
South dropped their record down to 4-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Haysville Campus, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Haysville Campus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for South against Haysville Campus when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 58-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for South since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
