According to several sources, Mason's Atrium Stadium was evacuated not long after a threat came by phone about 6 p.m. local time. Mason Police Lt. Jeff Burson told
wcpo.com that the caller said six pipe bombs had been planted in the trunk of a vehicle somewhere around the stadium.
Those at the stadium tweeted that law enforcement emptied the stadium within minutes. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, police had not found any bombs in their initial search.
In a news release, Mason school officials said the game is intended to be rescheduled, as early as Saturday.
WCPO later reported the game will be played on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The two teams haven't faced each other since 2007.
Gail Kist-Kline, the Mason City Schools Superintendent said in a release: “We take every threat extremely seriously and greatly appreciate the
quick actions of our families, coaches, students and spectators who
responded very well in a difficult situation. We also
appreciate our law enforcement partners’ diligence.”
