The Elkin Buckin' Elks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They suffered a tough 60-37 defeat at the hands of Mount Airy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Elkin in their matchups with Mount Airy: they've now lost nine in a row.
Mount Airy had a senior duo take command as Rylan Venable scored 18 points along with six steals and Mario Revels scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Venable has scored all season. Taeshon Martin was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Elkin has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Mount Airy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkin won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against North Stokes at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th. North Stokes knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 games -- so hopefully Elkin likes a good challenge. As for Mount Airy, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against East Wilkes at 7:45 p.m. on January 26th. East Wilkes is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
