Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ledyard). They never let the New London Whalers get on the board and left with a 27-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Colonels, who have now won four matches in a row.
Kyra Manning was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Manning was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Emma Discuillo and Faith Dalton did most of the damage at the plate: Discuillo got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs and two stolen bases, while Dalton got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Camryn O'Brien, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Ledyard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Ledyard's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games.
