The Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 49-35 fall against Wray. While losing is never fun, Haxtun can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Wray is ranked 108th).
Haxtun's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cassidy Goddard, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Anderson, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Wray was led to victory by Sharon Greek and Sydnee Cheek. Greek scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, while Cheek scored 14 points along with seven assists and six steals. Cheek is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Addison Jones, who scored six points along with two steals.
Haxtun dropped their record down to 2-15 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Wray, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Haxtun will look to defend their home court on Friday against Akron at 4:00 p.m. As for Wray, they will head out on the road to face off against Sedgwick County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
