5A Region IV District 27 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Holmes moved up to 335 from 474 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 27. The Huskies were able to make the jump by losing to O'Connor 41-38.
Brandeis extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Clark, 44-24. The victory was the sixth in a row for Brandeis.
Holmes' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. GILBERT GARCIA threw for 235 and two touchdowns and BRYCE THOMPSON had 77 yards receiving. On the ground GARCIA chipped in 113 yards. JORDAN VARGAS helped Holmes' passing attack out by catching six balls for 60 yards.
On the ground, Warren's R Jacobs has rushed for 407 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is A Taylor. The Warren star has 30 catches for 562 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region IV District 27 this week will be when the Warriors take on the Panthers. As it stands, Warren is in fourth, while O'Connor is in second.
Jay was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in the league. The Mustangs vanquished Taft 42-21 earlier in the week.
