The Mars Fightin' Planets will face off against the Aliquippa Quips at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mars comes in on seven and Aliquippa on 13.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mars walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 victory over Central Valley on Friday.
Mars' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Evan Wright, who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Wright is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season. Luke Goodworth was another key contributor, throwing for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Aliquippa was able to grind out a solid win over Greater Latrobe on Friday, taking the game 37-29. Given Aliquippa's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Greater Latrobe is ranked 81st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tiqwai Hayes was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Mekhi Green made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Mars' win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Aliquippa, they have yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-0 record.
