The St. John Fighting Herald had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came out on top against Maplewood by a score of 60-48. That result was just more of the same for these two, as St. John also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Leading St. John to victory were alyssa cevera and Mickey Zheng. cevera dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds, while Zheng dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 assists. That makes it eight consecutive games in which cevera has scored at least a third of St. John's points. The team also got some help courtesy of gracie disalvatore, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Maplewood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morgan Himes, who scored 15 points. Lauran Krieg was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
St. John pushed their record up to 8-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Maplewood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. John will square off against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Conneaut knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully the Fighting Herald like a good challenge. Maplewood is on the road again on Wednesday and plays the Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st.
