The University Lab Cubs will challenge the St. Joseph's Academy Redstickers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. University Lab is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
University Lab's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Episcopal with a sharp 17-0 victory. The Cubs haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Gabby Fontenot made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fontenot was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, London Harvey was a standout: she scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Lowe, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
University Lab always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .812. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph's Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 7-3 to Zachary.
Olivia Gremlllion was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Nealy Estave, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
University Lab's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for St. Joseph's Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
University Lab's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Cubs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Joseph's Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will University Lab continue to outrun the ball?
