Eastern C (8 Man) recap October 1, 2013
Powder River County was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Froid/Medicine Lake. The Hawks came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
Circle was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to sixth in Eastern C (8 Man). The Wildcats beat Scobey/Opheim 48-20 earlier in the week.
Fairview's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Monte Cayko threw for 116 and 2 touchdowns and Ben Hardy had 45 yards receiving. On the ground Alex Taylor contributed 66 yards. Pat Hardy helped Fairview's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 39 yards.
RJ Castaneda made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Warriors topped Hays-Lodge Pole. The 5-foot-11 junior.
Hardy was the best receiver in the league this week as Fairview bested the Thunder Birds. Hardy racked up 4 receptions for 45 yards. Hardy helped Fairview's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 39 yards.
Derek Gackle's team's Cayko and Hardy led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cayko has thrown for 544 yards this season, while Hardy, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 16 catches for 208 yards. Jacob Bakken from Wibaux leads the league in rushing with 306 yards.
The marquee game in Eastern C (8 Man) this week will be the clash between Culbertson/Bainville and the Warriors. The Cowboys enters the game ranked 18th in the state, while Fairview ranks 23rd.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Powder River County takes on the Longhorns. Russell Kinzer's team has allowed 87 points this season, while Wibaux has given up 32. The Hawks allowed 18 points last week as they topped the Redhawks.
Jeff bertelsen's team added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Culbertson/Bainville, 66-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Longhorns.
