3A District 2 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Pojoaque Valley was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in 3A District 2. The Elks/Elkettes beat Shiprock 27-14 earlier in the week.
Raton led the league in scoring this week after putting up 28 points on Raton.
5-foot-11 quarterback Toby Henson of the Tigers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 277. He has also thrown two touchdowns. On the ground, Taos's Isaac Gonzales has rushed for 535 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Juan Rios. The Pojoaque Valley star has nine catches for 175 yards.
A big matchup in 3A District 2 this week will be when Pojoaque Valley takes on West Las Vegas. At the moment, John Ainsworth's team is in second, while the Dons are in fourth.
The Elks/Elkettes made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,800 from 12,923. The improvement was the result of 27-14 victory over the Chieftains last week.
