The Texas Tigers and the Marshall Mavericks will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Texas is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Marshall in Texas (Texas is ranked 398th, while Marshall is ranked 820th).
Last Friday, Texas beat Pine Tree 62-49. The win made it back-to-back wins for Texas.
Meanwhile, Marshall's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mt. Pleasant.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Calleigh Johnson, who scored 11 points along with two steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that she posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ka'leehia Williams, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Texas' win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Marshall, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.
Texas beat Marshall 65-58 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will Texas repeat their success, or does Marshall have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
