Basketball Recap: Fort Meade Extends Winning Streak to Four

Fort Meade came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Excel Christian Academy Spartans by a score of 50-43. For the Miners, this counts as revenge for the 59-50 victory the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.

Fort Meade's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Omari Russell, who posted 17 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Russell's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Berrien, who put up 13 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Fort Meade is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Excel Christian Academy, they dropped their record down to 2-14 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Fort Meade has already played their next game (against Pahokee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Excel Christian Academy will take on Bridge to Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
