The Mineola Yellowjackets were the 42-38 winner over the Commerce Tigers when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Mineola had to suffer through a rough 49-21 loss at the hands of Commerce. Mineola was down 49-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Mineola's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Braydon Alley, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 52 yards and a touchdown on only three passes. Colton McMahon was another key contributor, gaining 115 total yards and two touchdowns.
Izzacc Simon was a one-man wrecking crew for Commerce as he rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Simon really tore up the turf during one magnificent 91-yard run. Another player making a difference was Jordan McMurray, who rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
Mineola's loss was their fourth straight at home , which bumped their record down to 4-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Winnsboro and 8-2 Pottsboro (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.5% over those games). As for Commerce, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Mineola does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Commerce will take on Tatum at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
