Eagle River is 9-1 against West Anchorage since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolves will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Eagle River will be strutting in after a victory while West Anchorage will be coming in after a loss.
Eagle River barely beat Palmer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolves blew past the Moose 12-2 on Wednesday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Moose recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Inoa Wakinekona made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wakinekona was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Liam Lierman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Jack Mullen, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Eagle River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmer only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, West Anchorage didn't have quite enough to beat Wasilla on Wednesday and fell 3-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
West Anchorage saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Hazlewood, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
West Anchorage now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Eagle River, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eagle River has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Anchorage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Eagle River took their win against West Anchorage in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
