Rocky River is 9-1 against Bay since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pirates will take on the Rockets at 5:00 p.m. Rocky River's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Bay's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Rocky River barely beat Valley Forge the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates blew past the Patriots 14-4 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Ava Mae DeMooy spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Smalley, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Carly Ewing also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Rocky River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Bay didn't have quite enough to beat Magnificat on Wednesday and fell 6-5. The loss continues a trend for the Rockets in their meetings with the Blue Streaks: they've now lost five in a row.
Cam Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Stehlik, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Rocky River, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-3.
Bay's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Rocky River has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bay, though, as they've been averaging only 2.1 strikeouts. Will Rocky River keep running through batters, or will the Rockets buck the trend?
