The Clearview Clippers will face off against the Rhodes Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Clearview is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Saturday. Everything went their way against Bedford as Clearview made off with a 16-6 victory.
Sean Mettler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Mettler was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Clearview let Thomas Torres and Nathan Bristor run wild. Torres got on base in all four of his plate appearances with six RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Bristor scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmir Sims, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.
Clearview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bedford only posted an OBP of .357.
Meanwhile, Rhodes came tearing into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against the Hurricanes. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Luis Correa was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Roberto Benitez and Luis Vasquez did most of the damage at the plate: Benitez scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Vasquez scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave Vasquez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jesus Cardenas, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Clearview might still be hurting after the 16-10 loss they got from Rhodes in their previous meeting back in April of 2019. Can Clearview avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
