The Perrysburg Yellow Jackets will venture away from home to square off against the Whitmer Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Perrysburg is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
Perrysburg gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Anthony Wayne 24-3. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won seven contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Perrysburg relied on the efforts of Liam Nowakowski, who rushed for 88 yards and one touchdown, and Brady Maxwell, who rushed for 97 yards and a pair of TDs.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Perrysburg proved: they limited Anthony Wayne to a paltry -0.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Brandon Badik for the heroic effort on defense: he. Perrysburg's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.3.
Perrysburg's defense didn't let Porter Brungard, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Giano Walkosky was especially locked on to Anthony Wayne's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Whitmer's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They and Clay were almost perfectly matched up, but the Panthers suffered a 29-28 loss. Despite 85 more yards than the Eagles, the Panthers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Perrysburg will have to contain Jaden Jones as he made an impact in Whitmer's last game. He rushed for 209 yards and two scores while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Brandon Waddell was another key player, picking up 71 receiving yards and one TD.
Whitmer's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Perrysburg, their record is now 8-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Perrysburg has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 213.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Whitmer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 226.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Perrysburg ended up a good deal behind Whitmer in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, losing 27-13. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
