Dillon Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Owen Angelo was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Michael Alvarado was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Sierra Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Silverado got the win against Desert Pines on Wednesday by a conclusive 17-0. The win continues a trend for the Skyhawks in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won seven in a row.
Jayden Orphan was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Hogan Hawkins, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Silverado pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Vista, their record now sits at 16-7.
Sierra Vista's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Mountain Lions have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Silverado, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Sierra Vista continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Sierra Vista's way against Silverado in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Sierra Vista made off with an 8-2 victory. Will the Mountain Lions repeat their success, or do the Skyhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
