Mark Keppel has gone 9-1 against San Gabriel recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Aztecs are taking a road trip to square off against the Matadors at 3:30 p.m. Mark Keppel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Mark Keppel will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Montebello on Tuesday. The Aztecs blew past the Oilers 14-4. The Aztecs haven't had any issues with the Oilers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Robyn Guitron made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Mark Keppel got a massive performance out of Lauren Young, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Young has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Sarah Lucero, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Mark Keppel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, San Gabriel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Bell Gardens, falling 17-6.
Mark Keppel pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for San Gabriel, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Mark Keppel took their win against San Gabriel in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 19-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aztecs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
