Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sumrall). They breezed by the Purvis Tornadoes to the tune of 69-33 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Bobcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Sumrall was led to victory by Ella Robertson and Kynlee Speed. Robertson posted 26 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Speed went 6 for 14 en route to 18 points in addition to seven assists and five steals. Those 26 points gave Robertson a new career-high. Talasha Harvey was another key player, putting up seven points.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Sumrall was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
When it comes to explaining why Purvis lost, don't look at Zoey Robinson. Despite the final result, she earned eight points in addition to 16 boards and five blocks. Robinson is crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Adaria Gray also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Sumrall's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 12-10. As for Purvis, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Sumrall wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-48 defeat against Pearl River Central on the 13th. Purvis has also already played their next contest, a 40-33 loss against Forrest County Agricultural on the 14th.
