Duval Charter is a perfect 7-0 against Ribault since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. Duval Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Duval Charter was handed an 11-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Bradford. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since February 24th.
Duval Charter's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Austin Wellbrock, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Tanner Williams was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Ribault won against Englewood on Monday with 19 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 19-11 margin over Raines. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Cristhian Leyva-Morales was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Ribault is 3-1 when Leyva-Morales posts eight or more strikeouts, but 4-6 otherwise. Leyva-Morales was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaquarius Moore, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Ribault: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Terlaius Griffin, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
The win got Ribault back to even at 7-7. As for Duval Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Duval Charter has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ribault struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Duval Charter got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in February against Ribault by a conclusive 19-0 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
