The Lutheran Mustangs's four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They greeted the New Year with with a 51-37 victory over First Baptist Academy. The win was just what Lutheran needed coming off of a 83-52 loss in their prior match.
First Baptist Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Timothy De La Rosa, who scored 14 points. The contest was De La Rosa's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Napier, who scored ten points.
Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for First Baptist Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.
Lutheran will head out on the road to face off against New Braunfels Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Braunfels Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lutheran in Texas (New Braunfels Christian Academy is ranked 632nd, while Lutheran is ranked 1356th). As for First Baptist Academy, they will be playing at home against Faith Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Faith Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
