The Cooper Cougars will take on the Coahoma Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Cooper made easy work of Memorial and carried off an 11-4 victory.
Maddie Fry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Angelic Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Ruiz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Coahoma put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their undefeated season alive. They never let Compass Academy get on the board and left with a 17-0 win.
Kyndal Lee looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Mia Clemmer was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Hannah Wells, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Coahoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Coahoma's victory was their 26th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Cooper, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cooper hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Coahoma struggles in that department as they've averaged .519. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
